Privacy Policy
This page is a template — it needs to be completed with your organization’s real details and reviewed by a qualified lawyer before this site goes live.
Overview
BeachScout (“we”, “this site”) publishes official EU bathing water quality ratings, sea temperature and weather data for beaches across Europe. This page explains what data is processed when you visit, and where it comes from.
Hosting & server logs
This site is hosted on Vercel. Like virtually every web host, Vercel's infrastructure processes standard connection and server logs for every request — including IP address, user agent and requested URL — to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service. This processing relies on our legitimate interest in running a reliable, secure website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Cookies & tracking
BeachScout does not set its own cookies and does not use any analytics or advertising trackers, first-party or third-party. Your light/dark theme preference is stored only in your browser's local storage — it is never sent to a server.
Third-party data sources
Official water quality classifications and monitoring history come from the European Environment Agency's Bathing Water dataset (CC BY 4.0). Sea temperature, wave and weather data come from the Open-Meteo APIs (CC BY 4.0). Beach amenity information and map data come from OpenStreetMap contributors (Open Database License, ODbL).
Embedded maps
Beach pages embed an interactive map served directly from openstreetmap.org. Loading such a page therefore also sends a request to openstreetmap.org, which may process your IP address under its own privacy policy, independent of this site.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase or restrict the processing of your data, and to object to it, by contacting us at the address below.
